Bar Rover was founded in 2016 by whisk(e)y expert Patrick Marran, inspired by a chance discovery that would shape his unique approach to spirits education.

Our History

it started With a bag

After stumbling on a vintage apothecary bag in a thrift store, Patrick began using it to carry his bar tools, sparking curiosity wherever he went. As people asked about the equipment, Patrick found himself explaining the intricacies of bartending and liquor, naturally evolving into a role as a guide between those who craft premium spirits and those eager to understand them.

From this blend of curiosity and expertise, Bar Rover was born—offering immersive, educational tastings that delve into the history, creation, and enjoyment of fine liquor.

Since its inception, Bar Rover has become a trusted name in the spirits world, serving as a brand ambassador for renowned whiskey producers such as Clonakilty, Bardstown, Woodford Reserve, The Glenrothes malt, BenRiach, and Paul John.

With a commitment to education and enjoyment, Bar Rover connects seasoned spirits experts with those looking to deepen their appreciation for premium liquor. Whether hosting tastings at private homes, offices, or special events, Bar Rover continues to elevate the drinking experience by pairing knowledge with passion, making every sip an opportunity to savor.

Patrick Marran

Whisky Wizard, Head Bartender at On the Rocks

Patrick Marran brings over twenty years of hospitality experience, guiding people in exploring the nuances of beer, wine, cocktails, and eventually whisky. While bartenders in bustling venues expertly juggle various duties to keep the night flowing, Patrick prefers a slower, more immersive approach, offering in-depth discussions and a deeper appreciation for spirits’ history, production, and context.

Patrick is currently the Head Bartender at On the Rocks, a whisky bar in Midtown Manhattan. He's a member of the United States Bartender's Guild and is eTIPs/ATAP certified. He holds a diploma in Single Malt Whisky from the Edinburgh Whisky Academy, the only certification approved by the Scottish Qualifying Authority (SQA), which is held by less than 550 people worldwide.
